Breckenridge to Celebrate Groundbreaking of Summit County's First Community-Owned Solar Garden
Breckenridge Ullr Solar Array Groundbreaking May 28, 2013 720 Wellington Road, Breckenridge, Colo. 1:00 p.m.

BOULDER, COLO. (May 21, 2013) After months of planning and coordination, solar garden pioneer Clean Energy Collective (CEC) is breaking ground on the first of two community-owned photovoltaic (PV) systems sprouting in Breckenridge, and is hosting a public celebration to mark the milestone.

The public is welcome to join the event Tuesday, May 28 to learn more about the Breckenridge Ullr Solar Array located on a portion of the Stilson property southeast of Breckenridge. The 500 kW clean power facility will serve Xcel Energy customers across Summit County, Colo.

"We are really excited to celebrate the groundbreaking of this array because everyone here is so passionate about the environment," said CEC founder Paul Spencer. "It provides anyone in Summit County a simple, affordable way to access clean energy."

CEC is taking deposits for panel purchases on a first-come, first-served basis. Each 235-Watt panel is $870, with a minimum purchase of five panels. Thanks to the Town of Breckenridge's enthusiastic support of the program, Breckenridge residents and businesses will receive a $0.10/Watt rebate.

To date, the towns of Breckenridge and Silverthorne as well as Summit County have committed to purchasing a significant portion of the panels in the Breckenridge Ullr Solar Array and the second array planned for north Breckenridge.

Construction is due to be complete later this summer, and panel owners will see a power credit on their utility bill as soon as the array goes online.
